Different courses suit how much time you've got left for study
Part-time
Course fees: Fees vary for part-time courses. However, on average most foundation degrees, HNCs and part-time degrees cost around £600 to £700 per year. Fees support and help with course and living costs are available.
Time: Up to 20 hours a week. This includes time at college and studying at home.
Benefits: Part-time courses encourage friendship and sharing. Some part-time students form study groups with people in their neighbourhood to share books and transport and to support each other in busy periods. Vocational courses that relate to your job can be really rewarding because you can apply what you've just learned.
Full-time
Course fees: Up to £3000 per year. Many students end up with student debt, but see it as an investment for a higher future income.
Time: Full-time study is like full-time work - about 40 hours a week. This includes time at college or university and studying at home. You usually have time for a part-time job, but most tutors agree it shouldn't really take up more than 17 hours a week.
Benefits: Studying full-time means you complete your degree faster. There are also grants for full-time students that might help with the cost. You can put more time and energy into your studies and experience the 'student life' which most people really enjoy. It can be a chance to leave home and study in another part of the country, meeting new people in student accommodation.
